From Flying for Fun to Representing Ellipse Aero: The Story of Markus Kaltenbach

02. March 2025

We are pleased to present an interview with our new dealer from Germany, Markus Kaltenbach. The interview was conducted online, and we would like to share his experiences, views on flying, opinions, and visions, which not only contribute to the success of his business but also benefit our future customers.

Who is Markus Kaltenbach?
Markus Kaltenbach is a 59-year-old professional who runs an ultralight flight school at Bremgarten Airport (EDTG). In addition, he works as an air traffic controller while managing a team of nine employees. He is married, a loving grandfather to two wonderful grandchildren, and enjoys gardening in his free time. When time allows, he loves to travel, always seeking the sea, which brings him peace and renewed energy. He considers reliability, loyalty, and honesty as the key qualities that best describe him.
We already know a little about Markus from his initial introduction, and now follows the interview itself, conducted virtually between Martin Němec, a representative of Ellipse Aero, and dealer Markus Kaltenbach. In this interview, Markus shares what inspired him to become a professional in aviation and the story behind his passion for flying.

What inspired you to start flying?
"As a young boy, around the age of 8, I regularly flew with my godfather in his DR-400 aircraft. I always looked forward to those flights immensely. Even back then, I dreamed of one day being able to pilot such an aircraft myself."

Do you remember your first flight? And what about your first solo flight? Was it a life-changing moment for you?
"Yes, of course, I remember it very well. Sitting in the left seat for the first time was incredibly exciting and a beautiful experience. The first solo flight was definitely a life-changing moment. My instructor got out and said, ‘Markus, everything was great, now do three circuits on your own.’ That moment is unforgettable. The silence, the responsibility, the tension, and the joy are still vivid within me."

What brought you to the Czech Republic to learn more about Ellipse?
"I've always liked Ellipse as a beautiful aircraft. Some of my students would ask me after their training which aircraft I would recommend. I got in touch with Martin Němec, and we discussed possibilities for cooperation. These conversations were very pleasant and sincere, which immediately convinced me that I wanted to sell this beautiful aircraft and help pilots in Germany and Switzerland find a reliable partner."

As an experienced pilot and instructor, you’ve had the chance to fly the Ellipse. What do you think pilots will love most about it? And what could make it popular in your market?
"Flying the Ellipse was a fantastic experience. I think pilots will appreciate their flight characteristics. Whether in turbulence or during slow flight, the Ellipse is stable yet agile. It’s fast, has a spacious cockpit, and thanks to its full-carbon construction, it’s very durable. Boarding is easy via the wing, and the tilting instrument panel makes it even simpler. Its excellent price-performance ratio will certainly make it popular in Germany and Switzerland."

What are your plans for introducing Ellipse to German customers? Can you imagine collaborating on events where pilots could test-fly the Ellipse?
"I have an extensive network of contacts through which I will promote Ellipse. Flying clubs will be informed, and the AERO 2025 trade fair will help with marketing. I also plan to have a demonstrator at EDTG Airport. I’m very happy to collaborate on various events. I believe that once someone tries the Ellipse, they’ll want to own one."

Can you tell us something about your home airport? Why should interested pilots come to Bremgarten?
"The special Bremgarten Airport (EDTG) is used by both model aircraft enthusiasts and business jets. We have about 18,000 flight movements annually, with both asphalt and grass runways. Switzerland is nearby, making it very attractive for Swiss pilots as well. The conditions for demo flights are ideal, and we even have turbulent areas near the Black Forest. The airport is easily accessible from all over Germany and Switzerland and is open almost all year round."

In conclusion: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

"During my visit, I was impressed by your team’s meticulous and enthusiastic work and the friendly atmosphere. It was clear that a beautiful aircraft was being created here with joy and conviction. I felt great with you and am delighted to now be part of the Ellipse family."
